Ohau is a small commercial ski field close to the western shore of Lake Ohau. The ski season usually runs from July to early October. Ohau has some of the most spectacular mountain views in New Zealand; from the summit of the ski field a spectacular view of the Southern Alps can be seen. From the ski field runs, Lake Ōhau and the Mackenzie Basin are spread out below in the valley floor. There are also good views across the lake to Ben Ohau. The access road is an unsealed alpine road but is kept in good condition with shuttle buses available. The road is closed once the ski season finishes.
