Lake Ruataniwha is an ideal place to be to watch the Southern Lights dancing on the horizon. There have been two fabulous displays recently, with visible beams, shimmering movement & even faint hint of colour.
Camera sensors are more sensitive than the human eye & with long exposures they pick up a lot more colour.
Aurora usually arrive after a large solar storm on the sun, they can happen at any time of the day or night and any time of the year but the crisp cool atmosphere & long dark nights of winter make it the perfect time for viewing.
